The Shore Is Hard On Pavers

Point Pleasant hardscape lives a rough life: full sun most of the day, salt in the air, pool splash, and sand tracked across it all summer. Paver color fades under a gray film, the joint sand washes and blows out a little every season, and one day the patio that sold you on the house looks ten years older than the house. This backyard, pool deck, walkway, and outdoor bar area included, was there. The fix is a three step reset: clean, sand, seal.

Before: the same investment, buried under gray. Color washed out, joints thin.

Step One: The Clean

Everything starts with a deep clean. Surface cleaning and targeted detergents lift the gray film, organic growth, and old failing sand out of the stone and the joints, so the next two steps bond to clean paver instead of grime. Around a pool and an outdoor bar, that also means working zone by zone and rinsing debris away from the water.

Step Two: Fresh Joint Sand

Joint sand is structural. It locks the pavers against each other, keeps them from shifting underfoot, and blocks the weeds and ants that colonize empty joints. After the clean dries, fresh sand gets swept across the field and worked down into every joint until they are full again.

The sand goes down first as a band across the dry pavers, right up to the pool coping.

Then the brooms come out. Sand gets pushed in every direction across the field so it drops into the joints instead of sitting on top, pass after pass, until the joints are packed flush.

Step Three: The Seal

The sealer is what the owner sees. It locks the new sand in place, slows the fade, sheds water and spills, and pulls the original color back out of the stone. Scroll back up to the photo at the top: that is the same kind of walkway as the before shot above, after the full treatment. The tans and browns were there the whole time, waiting under the gray.

Questions People Ask

Three steps: a deep clean that lifts the gray film and old growth out of the stone, fresh sand swept and compacted into every joint, and a sealer that locks the sand in, deepens the color, and protects the surface.
Most shore properties get three to five years from a quality sealer; heavy sun, pool splash, and salt air shorten that. If the color looks washed out and the joints are thinning, it is time.
It brings the color back. Sealers range from a natural finish to a wet look enhancement, and we walk through the options on the estimate so you pick the finish before anything goes down.
