Soft Washing A Limestone Estate: A Gentle Hand Wins

Every so often a job reminds us why the word pressure in pressure washing is misleading. This estate is wrapped in cast limestone: carved trim, egg and dart moulding, decorative panels, Corinthian column caps. Beautiful, and about as forgiving as chalk. Years of rain runoff had left tan streaks bleeding down the panels and window surrounds, the kind of staining that makes even a spectacular home look tired.
High pressure on stone like this does not clean it. It erodes it. The surface is porous, the details are delicate, and a turbo nozzle would take the staining off along with the face of the stone. So nothing on this project ever saw high pressure.

The job starts at the gate. Carved rosettes and a ball finial, cleaned by hand from a ladder rather than blasted from the ground.
Chemistry First, Water Second
The whole job ran on soft washing: low pressure, the right cleaning solution for organic and mineral staining, and patience. The solution does the work of breaking down what has bonded to the stone, and a gentle rinse carries it away. It is the same principle we use on painted siding and stucco, tuned for stone this delicate.
Second story reach with feet on the ground. No ladders leaning against carved trim, and the pole gets to the top of the bay from the driveway.
Low pressure, high reach. The solution is doing the work here, not the water.
Purified Water On The Glass
The windows got the same treatment our condo clients know: water fed poles running purified water, scrubbed and rinsed spot free, with no drips drying on the fresh stone below. On a house with this much glass that matters. Streak free windows against streaked stone would look wrong, and streaked windows against clean stone would too. The job is only done when both read clean together.
The detail work is the point: glass, frame, and carved surround all reading clean together.
The Result
Wall after wall of limestone back to one even, bright tone. No etching, no wand marks, no blown out mortar lines. Just the house the way it was meant to look. The travertine pool deck and paver courtyard got the same respect: surface appropriate methods, nothing aggressive near the coping or the fire features.
The after: one even tone down the whole run.
